Crushed Limestone Rock
Also called Washed Rock, Clean Rock, or Crushed Limestone Concrete Aggregate due to its uniformity and wide range of use in construction applications, particularly in Concrete and Asphalt mixes. Thanks to its availability, versatility, and ability to be produced into a wide range of products, limestone is the most utilized rock for production of crushed stone in the US.
Crushed Limestone Aggregate is produced from solid rock formations in quarries by blasting, crushing, and screening raw material. The process begins by blasting large pieces of natural limestone off the quarry wall onto the ground below using controlled explosions. Next, machines crush the large pieces of limestone into smaller pieces for further processing. The limestone then proceeds through a screening plant which sorts and deposits the Limestone by size by removing and rerouting larger stones, then smaller ones, all the way down to mineral dust or “fines”. Screening and producing varying sizes of Crushed Limestone Aggregate is critical for contractors that require specific sizes or blends of crushed stone, most commonly ¾”, 1” and 1 ½” rock.
